Eyelid surgery involves tightening loose muscles and removing sagging skin and excess fat tissue from around the eyes. Incisions are made along the natural lines of the eyelids, and are hidden by natural folds of the skin after surgery. Surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia and lasts approximately 40 minutes. As a patient of the Suncoast Eye Center, your surgery is performed in the privacy of our specialized Eye Surgery Institute.
Following surgery, you will be given post operative instructions. Cold compresses are applied to ease discomfort and to reduce swelling and bruising. We recommend that you continue to apply these at regular intervals over the next 24 to 36 hours.
Excessive tearing and sensitivity to light may occur for a few days. Sunglasses will protect your eyes from sunlight and wind. You can resume your normal activities one week after surgery.
